Sydney 1 May 2007: Globalstar Announces Commercial Launch of New Low Cost Simplex Tracking and Telemetry Solutions Australia wide from mid-2007.
The new Simplex satellite service from Globalstar Australia allows a remote device to transmit short messages at pre-programmed intervals or as incident alarms are raised.
The service covers the Australian mainland, Tasmania, up to 500 Nautical miles into the Indian and Southern Oceans and east past New Zealand and New Caledonia. Roaming to North America and Europe, along with many parts of South America, North Africa and Middle East and North East Asia is automatic and billed at local rates. This service is set for nationwide availability in July 2007, and already today VARs and developers can test the service on the live network.
“Until now the costs of telemetry and tracking outside of cellular coverage have been out of reach of most users. Now thanks to Globalstar Australia’s breakthrough simplex data service, tracking and telemetry services will be affordable and allow monitoring of assets across the continent, not just in those limited locations where cellular coverage exists” said Peter Bolger, Director of Globalstar Australia.
M2M Connectivity has partnered with Globalstar as its hardware partner for this service and act as Axonn’s distributor for the territory. M2M will supply the new AXTracker MMT and AXTracker T3 integrated modems, together with the Axonn STx2 simplex satellite data module and developer kit. Target customers include VAR’s selling services to fleet owners, as well as application and hardware developers who might want to integrate the module.
Globalstar Australia will provide wholesale simplex data services to enable Developers and Service providers to bundle the simplex satellite service with their subscription based services.
The hardware costs for Globalstar Simplex are not much more than for GSM. For example a complete tracking modem has a retail cost around $700 ex tax and a Simplex STx2 module around A$150.
Commenting on the Australian launch of the AXTracker MMT, Chad Holsinger, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Axonn said, “Axonn has created a revolutionary product that can be used for a multitude of applications. The MMT is a great option for monitoring those assets that only require simple, one-way communication. If the key to operating your business more efficiently and effectively is to understand what is happening to your asset, like when your container left port or was loaded on a railcar or if the door was opened while in transit, then you are the perfect candidate for our new AXTracker MMT."
This cost effective satellite data solution brings ubiquitous coverage to the wider market and is set to exponentially grow current applications, which are currently limited by cellular coverage.
For end users, Globalstar Australia will launch its TracerTrak™ service which provides a simple web based Asset Tracking and Monitoring solution offering location information and alarm sensor updates to keep track of their personal assets such as their boat or caravan. Customers can locate and track their assets with the online TracerTrak™ mapping tool, right across Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding waters. Users can also choose to have the information delivered by SMS or E-mail.
