- Don’t compromise – security is too important!
- Maximise protection – ensure that you have adequate solutions in place as far as:
- firewall
- anti-virus
- spyware protection
- malware protection
- rootkits
- spam
- Encourage clients to buy a suite of security products that is built to work together, rather than point solutions – it will be less of a drain on memory and processing resources, and will provide unified installation, unified updates and central management and control.
- Security should be easy for the end user. Set and forget. – It should update, scan and quarantine without end user intervention.
- Ensure the solution provides clients with latest program files. If a new version of the software is released during the year, make sure this is provided as standard and the client is not left stranded with old software.
- Ensure vendor technical support and backup is excellent both for reseller and for the end user. Free support is best. Does the vendor provide priority support for resellers?
- Choose vendor who respects your client relationships. You own the client and you as the reseller should be responsible for renewals, new sales etc.
- Don’t use free solutions. They only provide base level protection, leave the client stranded when it comes to support and give clients a false sense of security.
- Choose vendors who are willing to put back into the reseller channel. Look for training programs, availability of marketing collateral, reseller locators, reseller portals etc.
- Security never ends. It should be an ongoing dialogue between reseller and the client. It provides you with value added opportunities and a reason to make regular contact.
