Kitchens To The Trade (KT3) is a family owned and operated kitchen manufacturing company based in Lonsdale, South Australia.
They manufacture and assemble cabinets, laminate benchtops, PVC and laminate doors to the trade throughout Australia. These include major retailers such as Kitchens by Farquhar, Harvey Norman Renovations, Lincoln Sentry and Design Joinery as well as many other independent cabinet makers.
KT3 has continually invested in new software and machinery which has allowed them to develop methods of production that are at the cutting edge of industry. They run two servers, one running Microsoft Server 2003 and one using Microsoft Small Business Server 2003. They use Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows Vista as their operating systems.
Challenges
Adam Dormand manages the IT systems at KT3 and has stated that after implementing a new server the company wanted some added security to protect the cutting edge software and data that is essential to their business. With so many major retailers relying on them, losing the entire system would have dire consequences to their enterprise. This also meant they needed to reduce the strain on staff during backup and recovery processes.
Product Evaluation
After looking at Symantec / Powerquest V2i Protector 2.0 and Norton Ghost, certain features like being able to implement regular backups during business hours without disrupting general procedure led them to reducing the strain on staff. Using the Universal Restore option they are able to deploy an image to a bare metal server with dissimilar hardware, which is invaluable in the case of an unforeseeable disaster that destroyed the system. The ability to use a wide variety of storage media including external USB hard drives, an additional internal hard disk, CDs and DVDs, meant that Acronis True Image Server for Windows and Workstation was the most suitable solution to KT3’s business needs.
Benefits
As a result of testing out the software it was plain to see how easily the business can be fully operational after a disaster, giving the operator peace of mind that their enterprise is in safe hands with Acronis.
